In 2010, Pat Cummins played Junior Cricket for the Glenbrook Blaxland Cricket Club in the Blue Mountains before playing first grade cricket for the Penrith. In the same year, he represented NSW in the National Under-17 championship and later the NSW Under-19 team. Pat took 4 for 16 and was named Man of the Match in the preliminary final of the 2010-11 KFC Twenty20 Big Bash against Tasmania. He finished with Nathan Lyon as the leading wicket taker in the tournament match.
Cummins’s made his first class debut in a match against Tasmania after impressing for the NSW 2nd XI in March 2011. He played the final three matches of the 2010/ 11 Shifield Shield season, including the final where he bowld 65 overs for the match. At that time he was just 17 years old. He was later ruled out of the Australia A tour of Zimbabwe due to a injury in his back.
