She was born in a Bengali family on 25th November 1982 in Chakdaha, Nadia, West Bengal, India. Goswami was fond of playing and watching football in her childhood but she has grew her interest in cricket after watching the 1992 Cricket World Cup on TV. She train her self for cricket when she was 15 years old. There were no facilities in her hometown Chakdaha for cricket training, so she has to move to Kolkata for focusing on her study and cricket.

Jhulan Goswami made it to the Bengal Women’s Team when she was 19 years old. After a promising debut season with Bengal, she made her way into the East Zone Team. She took her first big step towards International Cricket after this. Jhulan impressed with her pace and ability to move the ball during the game between East zone and Air India in 2000. She finished the match with 3/13 in 10 overs against the Air India Side. That time there is top players like Anju Jain was in Air India team. After this match she got an offer to join the Air India team.
In the ODI against England in Chennai Jhulan made her India debut. She begun England’ rout as picked opener Caroline Atkin’s wicket. After that she caught Lucy Pearson in front of the stump as England crashed for 106 at Chennai. She was named in the Squad for women’s World Cup, South Africa in 2005. Goswami took 5 wickets in each inning and finished with matches figure of 10 for 78 to help India to a famous series victory in test match against England at Taunton in 2006. In the year 2007, she won the ICC Women’s Player of the Year. She took 40 test wickets in her name in 10 matches.
